Hi Jack, my wife and I met you in Kinsale, VA last summer, we docked beside you for the night. I am currently reading and really enjoying Soloman, which we purchased from you and you signed it. Let us know if you’ll be back in the neighborhood at some point, I’d love to line you up to give a talk at our club, Corinthian Yacht Club in Ridge, MD.
    Warmest regards,
    Eric and Karen

    Hi Jack,
I recently came across your very informative blog. I am from Australia and have discovered through Ancestry my DNA matches with Skansie, Babich, Ursich etc.
My Great Grandfather was born in StMartin, Brac Dalmatia and was a stonemason.
Bartholomew Skansie was born 13 Nov 1832 came to Australia 1855, Naturalised 06 Apr 1871. Changed his name to Louis Gerrey and died 02 Jan 1899.
His father was Peter Skansie (1805-1870) and mother Elizabeth.
Peter Skansie also had children with Antica. I have them recorded and this is where my connection lies.
For example Julia Skansie married Spiro Babich. I share DNA with Nick Babich. Also Tom Skansi.
Any help with the name Bartholomew Skansie would be very much appreciated. Sorry if this is a big ask!
    Regards Shirley

  4. Hello Shirley,

Sorry for the late reaction.I will forward this to a number of Skansies, Babiches and will copy you, for whom I have e-mail addresses in Gig Harbor and Saint Martin. I am currently semi permanent in Holland, flying to my Home Port Gig Harbor on November 15.
