No pictures yet. Today I put the hailing port back on the transom. My last coat of Awlgrip Clear came out well. Right conditions and sufficient thinners added to make it look like glass. For a 32 year lifetime this boat just keeps amazing me. The boys that work around me here are now starting to take me serious again. They just could not figure out that there was no apparent progress.
I put the first finish coat on the hull. Great expectations…as to how this new color would look. At first I did not see a whole lot of difference between the previous “baby poop” I ended up with in Green Cove Springs, Florida in the spring of 2009. I wanted a light brown. And I chose this from a color chart in Sneek, Friesland. It appeared to have too much yellow in it. But after it dried it looked better. It is a one part Sikkens marine paint. I rolled it on with these new small 4 1/2 inch long foam rollers, and on the starboard side I tipped out with a good bristle brush. But when the port side came in the shade in the late afternoon I did not even bother with tipping it off and it seemed to flow out just as well. It has a great shine and luster to it.
There will be pictures after I put the final coat on and the boat name decals and registration numbers back on. The only problem I had was with these tiny green flies. I hope that they will get the message that it is death before I put the final coat on.
This evening and tomorrow I have been sent by Camelia to fend for my own dinner. She had to go to Alexandria today. I need to take the 7.13 a.m. train to Alexandria tomorrow to claim my GPS antenna, at Customs in Alexandria, that Lisa forwarded to me.
