April 1 Tiptoe Through The Tulips

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

On Palm Sunday I attended 11 a.m. services at St. Nicholas in Gig Harbor and caught up with several parishoner friends. Stopped to see Judy Burcar. Then it was time for the 3 p.m. choir rehearsal. Friends since the early seventies, when we were members of the Tacoma Lawn and Tennis club, Cheryl and Dave Millett had me over at their house in Gig Harbor and took me to dinner at the “Shor(sic)line”.  Monday I visited with Phil and Leilani Robson on Granville Island. We met on a three day tour of the Mekong Delta and met up again in Phnom Penh. I spent the evening with Sid and Leslie Nesbit in Bellingham, we met on a ski charter flight to Austria in 1972. Tuesday I visited Michael and Michelle St. John-Smith in North Vancouver. Mike and I met in 1978 in La Conner and have sailed together on “Gemini” and “Fleetwood” in many races and cruises. Mike owned one of the NAJA’s, like “Fleetwood”.  Al and Simone Loewen had me over for a chicken barbecue and I spent the night at their house in Maple Ridge. We met in Vancouver through the lumber business over 25 years ago. On the way south again I stopped to have coffee with Dewey Huston who will celebrate his 85th next week. The hail storms and black clouds gave a way for a few hours when I took a side trip into the Skagit Valley to see the bulb fields. Lunch, yesterday, with Ken House in Stanwood. Ken and I lost track of each other around 1995. Ken also crewed on “Fleetwood” for many years. He helped me built another NAJA, the one that Mike St. John bought and he was the contractor who built our home in 1984 in Shaw’s Cove.

Friends for ever, memories and future plans.
