Sunday July 1st. Vieste. Puglia Italy

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

I left Komiza on Vis in the early afternoon. I managed to sail most of the way. At first at a respectable speed then around two knots but I managed to get in to Vieste at around 6 a.m. I went to 9.45 mass at the cathedral. For the first time I could follow most of the service and join the singing. It was an unusual hot day, around 40 degrees Centigrade, over a 100 Fahrenheit. Tooting horns, flag waving Italians everywhere. They won the Europa Cup, last night. It is amazing that the countries with the weakest economies and highest debts are the better soccer players.

Not a single internet wi-fi facility here. This is worse than the third world countriesĀ I have visited. I am writing this on the sidewalk picking up a signal from a hotel.

If it stays this hot I might do more night sailing. There will a full moon again in the next days.
